All BVC Board members volunteer their time and gifts to serve BVC's mission to improve the lives of the poor and marginalized in Central Oregon.  As our board is expanding, bios of each member are gradually being added.  Please check back for updates.

Tom Meagher, Board President

My wife, Kristin and I moved to Bend in 2003 along with our 3 children--Matthew (now 18, Megan (15), and Tim (13).  Both Kristin and I grew up nearby in Portland OR but we each lived for more than 10 years in a variety of large cities around the U.S.--Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco to name a few.  Professionally, I have worked as an investment advisor and wealth manager at Smith Barney for the last 17 years.  I have been a board member with the BVC since 2005.  I am currently the BVC Board President.

We moved to Central OR to raise our family in a smaller town environment and to take advantage of the incredible quality of life that the Bend provides.  As a family, we ski and back-country ski in the winter. We fish, bike, camp and hike in the summers.

The core value that holds the most meaning to me is that of Community. The BVC continues to be a smaller organization that focuses on the lives of our volunteers and important work that they do.  My family and the larger BV community has learned and grown incredibly as we have walked with each Bend Volunteer through the years. Our relationships in the BVC have truly been a gift to us from God.  We look forward to many more years as an active part of the BVC.

Gary Graves, Board Vice President

My wife, Mimi, & I have lived in Bend since 1988. We both have been actively
involved with the JVC's (fore runners of the Bend Volunteer Community) and the
Bend Volunteers for many years.

Having lived in many different areas of the US & having had the opportunity to

travel extensively we have found Bend to be a special place, not only because of
the amazing outdoor activities but because of the wonderful people that live
here. These people include former JVC's and Bend Volunteers themselves.

I think the value of social justice is the value that puts the other core

values of community, simple living, & spirituality into motion.

Paul Dean, Board Treasurer

My wife, Mary, and I have lived in Bend for 10 years and are the proud parents of two daughters, Bridget (age 13) and Maddie (age 11).  Currently, I'm a Principal at Highland Magnet School , a K-5 elementary school in Bend. I have been in education for 19 years as a high school math, religious studies teacher, and school counselor.

St. Teresa of Avila, a famous Catholic mystic, wrote:

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.

This quote embodies the work we have undertaken through the Bend Volunteer Community. Collectively, we strive to improve the lives of the poor and marginalized in Bend while embracing the values of simple living, social justice, community and spirituality.

BVC is my way of putting into action the things I profess to believe in during Sunday Liturgy.  "The Word become Flesh."  John 1:14

Lisa Schwab, Board Secretary

I have lived in Bend with my husband Tom and three children (Anna, 15, Matt, 11

and Catherine, 7) for 14 years. We love the small town feel of Bend and the
beautiful surroundings. I grew up in southern California and then in Portland,
Oregon. I graduated from Santa Clara University in the Bay Area and worked for
several years in Human Resources and insurance before deciding to stay home with
my children. I have known people, including my father, who volunteered their
time for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and the Bend Volunteer Community and I have
admired the work they do.

When the opportunity arose for me to work on the board of the BVC, I jumped at
the chance.
Although I have often volunteered at our church and children's school,
this offered a concrete and direct way to serve
the needy in our community.

As a Catholic, I feel called to help others and care about those less fortunate in our society.
I feel we must act on our faith
in compassion for others. As it states in James 2:26,
"Faith without works is dead". This is my first year on the board and I am serving as board secretary.

Lynn Hyde, Board Member

I have lived in Bend since 1996 with my husband, Gene, and 2 children: Emily (14) and Stella (9). I have a finance degree and have owned a bookkeeping business since moving to Bend.   We enjoy outdoor activities such as cross country skiing, hiking and biking.

As a BVC board member, I am excited to give back to the Bend community that I love.  It is rewarding to support the volunteers in the work they do for those in need.

KC Lockrem, Board member

I am a studio artist and have been showing my work in galleries and Museums since 1991.  I received my BFA and New York Teaching Certificate from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.  I have also studied Art at the Chicago Art Institute and the Rhode Island School of Design.  My Post Bachelorette studies were from Metro State in Denver Colorado.  I have taught Art and Art History at the Primary and College levels and live in Bend with my husband and three children.

I was drawn to the Bend Volunteer Community Board through my passion for humanity and faith.  Yearly I donate my Art and time to raise money for those in need.

Theresa Kramer, Board Member

My family (husband Dave, kids Ben-17, Kendall-15, and Jeremiah-13)
and I have been here since 1990 and have seen a lot of
change in 20 years! I work at St. Charles, I am a Physical Therapist and
currently work with our employees on Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention,
Safety, and Ergonomics Strategies Why BVC? My prior board involvement has been with Little League
and Youth sports. Although it is rewarding to create a positive experience
for our youth, I've always been peripherally involved with JVC/BVC mostly
through prayer and encouragement of those directly involved with the
group.

I'm excited spiritually to play a small role in this important
group....I think Micah 6:8 fits perfectly with our Core Values "And what
does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk
humbly with your God."

Matt Davio, Board Member

I am a full time trader who both swing position trades and daytrades. I
trade Stocks, Options, Futures, Commodities, Currencies and try to have some
fun. I have been at this game for over 18 years and have worked for a few
hedge funds along with running my own fund. I trade wherever I can find
liquidity and volatility as that is how I pay my bills. Currently managing
my own book and enjoying raising an active family.

My children are at the stage where it is important for them to give back the community.
I find this stage of my life to be one where I can begin to spend more time giving to the
community and serving my faith and helping those in need. I find leadership by example and
mentorship to be some of the best gifts any of us can give back to the community. I want to
lead my family by example and BVC is one way I can work with my kids to do this!

Mark Brogley, Board Member

My wife Kim and I, along with our 2 children (ages 9 and 12) have lived in Bend for eight years and have been involved with the BVC for the past four.  We previously served as one of the BVC Support Families.  This extremely rewarding experience allowed all four of us to get to know each of the wonderful volunteers on a personal level each year.  In 2010, I was offered the opportunity to serve on the BVC Board and I accepted this position in order to serve the BVC and the Bend community in a greater capacity.

The BVC core value of ‘simple living’ helps each BVC volunteer, experience in their own way, what most poor and marginalized people experience on a daily basis.  This important life lesson, along with the other three core values of the BVC (social justice, community and spirituality) forms a closely knit tapestry to what I believe produces a comprehensive, rewarding and hopefully the best volunteer experience one can have in a ‘year of service’.  I feel that one doesn’t give up a year of his/her life to serve with the BVC here in central Oregon; one gains a lifetime of experience of learning, love and meaningful relationships.

My passion and energy to helping the less fortunate, was nurtured at a young age by my parents and has been developing / building over the years of my adult life.  I believe living by example is the best way to teach our children.
