Religious Affiliation: Historically Catholic, but open to all people
Goal of Program: To recruit volunteers from throughout the US to serve the poor and needy in Central Oregon
Types of Placements May Include: Services for the homeless and other people at-risk; advocacy for battered women; emergency food and services for families and seniors; assisting the disabled and mentally ill; preschool and home support for at-risk families.
Area of Service: The city of Bend and its surrounding area-Central Oregon.
Length of Service: September 1- August 1.
Requirements: We invite applications from individuals who are over 21 and have work experience or a college education. A high school diploma is requred unless the applicant is enrolled in a GED program while serving, and completes his or her GED by the end of the year of service.
Applications should also possess:
* The willingness to spend a year in the service of others.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to be flexible, adaptive, and work on a team.
* U.S. Citizenship or be a lawful permanent resident alien.
* Commitment to serve as a full-time volunteer for 11
months (or 5 months as a 900 hour volunteer)
Financial Arrangements: Bend Volunteer/ Notre Dame AmeriCorps Team members are provided with health insurance and a living allowance. Members also receive an education award after completing their year of service, which may be applied to qualified loans or future education. Ongoing support from the BVC team, and loan deferral are also provided. See www.ndmva.org for more information.
Living Arrangements: BVC volunteers have the option to live in community housing.
Size of Program: 4-10 volunteers total.
Training: Local orientation, Mid Year Training with other Notre Dame-AmeriCorps' volunteers from across the country, local monthly team training meetings and optional retreats. Agency orientation and training.
